1 Background Logistics service providers (LSPs) connect organisations, coordinate activities and consolidate resources (Cui and Hertz 2011), having the potential to play a crucial role in enabling a systemic transition to a circular economy (CE)ce) (see Neuhold 2022; Hofman 2023). A CE is characterised as an economy that is restorative and regenerative by design and aims to keep products, components and materials at their highest utility and value at all times (Ellen MacArthur Foundation 2019).
