An improved discrete element numerical simulation study on the freeze-thaw microscopic damage evolution of soil‒rock mixtures
ABSTRACT To better understand the effects of freeze–thaw (F–T) cycles on the microstructure and mechanical properties of soil‒rock mixtures (SRMs), an improved method for discrete element calculations of SRM was introduced. The damage mechanism of F–T cycles on the microstructure and mechanical parameters was analyzed. The contact force loss rate of soil‒rock particleswas used as an influencing factor to construct an F–T degradation model of uniaxial compressive strength(UCS).
