The answer might be: “I ain’t never gone to The Statue of Liberty.” (Honestly, New Yorkers tend not to do the tourist-y destinations. Plus, as a Jersey Girl, I must divulge that The Statue is in New Jersey.) But that’s not what this is about. This post is about your new picture book writing mantra. You want your readers to know that your main character, Suzy, is quiet.

You asked me to share how the idea for this book formed and the truth is…it’s complicated. The first book in this series, BUG ON THE RUG, developed after a bout of writer’s block, a self-inflicted writing challenge, and a late-night phone call with my little brother, whom I call BUG.
