Abstract Excess adiposity before and during pregnancy has been linked to cardiometabolic inflammatory disease in offspring, yet programmed vulnerabilities may remain latent until challenge. Using a mouse model of maternal high-fat diet (mHF)-induced excess adiposity, we investigated whether maternal excess adiposity programs immune, intestinal, and metabolic vulnerabilities that emerge after postnatal Streptococcus pneumoniae challenge.

Maternal Diet‐Induced Excess Adiposity in Mice Disrupts Mid‐Gestation Decidual Immune and Vascular Homeostasis Without Impairing Spiral Artery Remodeling

1 Introduction The placenta is a critical maternal-fetal interface throughout gestation, facilitating nutrient and gas exchange, and modulating maternal physiologic adaptations to pregnancy, while also serving as a protective barrier against xenobiotics, pathogens, and maternal allorecognition [1].

Maternal obesogenic diet disrupts mid-gestation decidual immune and vascular homeostasis without impairing spiral artery remodelling

| BioRxiv
Abstract Excess maternal adiposity (i.e., overweight and obesity) during pregnancy has been linked to impaired uteroplacental perfusion, compromised placental development, and a higher risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes.
