I’m certainly not the first to say it, but I have a complicated relationship with The Daily Tar Heel. I began as most others did as a staffer: bright-eyed, inspired, intimidated, naive. Editors made it seem so easy in how they made the paper every week, and I aspired to do the work that they did — to be responsible for producing The Daily Tar Heel. And now that the visage of it all falls, I’m able to reflect on my experience here with a new set of eyes. I’ve got a lot of feelings about it.

As I write my office DJ debut, it’s exactly six days and 14 hours from my 20th birthday. Though I’ve been an adult for a little while now, something about deserting the '-teen' at the end of my age feels scarily definitive. I know it doesn’t really mean much — 7299 days of life is hardly different from 7300 — but I can’t help but feel that, after two decades, I really should know what I’m doing. Sure, I have some ideas. I know I enjoy writing and editing, illustration and research.

On Aug. 8, construction officially began on Carrboro’s 203 Project, a multipurpose structure at 203 S. Greensboro St. The structure will house a new Orange County Southern Branch Library and various local organizations. While the Town of Carrboro held a groundbreaking ceremony on May 5 at the site, work did not begin until this month.
