The American Legion season comes to a close for summer baseball and softball

While the American Legion playoffs haven’t finished yet throughout South Carolina, the summer is over for the local Aiken County baseball and softball teams just in time for school to start. Both of the Aiken Baseball Club’s teams saw some success during their schedules, finishing with winning records and a couple of wins in the playoffs. For the older group, it was the longest postseason run by a local American Legion team, advancing all the way to the third round.

AIKEN — Experience has been the key to Gregg Park's little league success this season for the 8U All-Star group. Following a dominant regular season run with just one loss, they’re heading to Mississippi to represent South Carolina at the Diamond Youth Baseball World Series on July 22. But it’s taken a lot of work for the group to get to this point. Last year, when many of the same kids were younger and more inexperienced, they managed to win just one game at the district championship.

Florida Rebels win Nike Peach Jam after dominant run Original

NORTH AUGUSTA — After spending almost the entire week at the top of the team standings, it was the Florida Rebels who came out victorious over Drive Nation 71-60 in the Nike Peach Jam final. Both teams only lost one game during the pool play portion of the tournament on their way to the quarterfinals. Drive Nation’s only loss came at the hands of JL3, while Florida’s was the result of an upset by NY Rens in triple overtime.
