Taylor Gates

Taylor Gates is an Indiana native who earned her BFA in Creative Writing from the University of Evansville. She fell in love with entertainment by watching shows about chaotic families like Full House, The Nanny, Gilmore Girls, and The Fosters.

After college, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a writer, editor, and filmmaker. Today, she’s a sucker for dramedies — especially coming-of-age stories centering around complex female and LGBTQ+ characters. She has been with Collider since May 2022.

Taylor is a member of GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics and the Online Association of Female Film Critics. She is also Rotten Tomatoes and CherryPicks approved. In addition to Collider, her work has been featured on BuzzFeed, Show Snob, That Hashtag Show, AfterBuzz TV, and Starry Constellation Magazine. She is currently an editor for Fanversation and hosts a weekly podcast about Law & Order called S-Re-View.

Her Letterboxd Top Four are Private Life, Princess Cyd, Mistress America, and Shiva Baby. In addition to the shows she already talked about, her favorite series of all time include UnREAL, Friday Night Lights, Succession, Big Little Lies, a Danish show called Rita, and any prestige miniseries where Kathryn Hahn’s life is lowkey falling apart. In her free time, Taylor can be found watching Rachel Weisz’s entire filmography, spreading the word about The Hahnaissance, and collecting too many Funko Pops.
