The University of Missouri’s journalism program in Washington, D.C., has a long history in Washington, D.C., with students reporting for various national media such as Slate and the Washington Post. This past semester, the university assigned four students to cover the Missouri congressional delegation, a journalistic task mostly ignored since the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and Kansas City Star closed their Washington bureaus.

When the Gateway Journalism Review was founded in St. Louis back in 1970, it was part of a wave of publications and other entities dedicated to tracking journalism’s successes and failures.

Five-State Research Project Promotes More-Humane Prisons

With the nation's prison population standing at about 1.3 million and invovlving 200,000 corrections officers, many inmates still must live in dangerous, substandard conditions. Six years ago, the Washington, D.C.-based Urban Institute launched a $10 million project funded by Arnold Ventures to "shine a much-needed light" on prison conditions and strategies to promote the well-being of prisoners and corrections employees.
