Flavins are tricyclic heteroaromatic molecules derived from isoalloxazine ( Figure 1 a) and frequently act as indispensable cofactors and reactive centers in biological redox and photochemical systems. (1) Their ability to efficiently absorb blue light extends their function far beyond classical redox chemistry, facilitating diverse photobiological processes such as photocatalysis, photoreactivation, and photosensing.
