I started in merchant banking in the early ’70s, moved to New York City and Los Angeles in 1980, and founded two financial businesses, one in the film industry. This was a completion-guarantee company that helps independent producers to raise money from banks. We insured against the eventuality that the film wouldn’t be completed. It became the main way for independent producers to make films for 15 to 20 years in the States and the UK.

I’m a biblical scholar, with a particular love for all things apocalyptic, especially the book of Revelation. My research revolves around challenging scholarly assumptions through finding unexpected ways to re-view texts, particularly through film. Some of these assumptions are unconscious, shaped by a normative male-body paradigm and centuries of misogyny.

I was running a Workers’ Educational Association course for women who were at home with small children and had lost their sense of identity. We were doing confidence-building and assertiveness training, but it wasn’t enough. Many of the women needed relationship work and something deeper and more personal; so I started training as a therapist, initially with Relate.
