Safran's Arriel 2K engine has received type certification from EASA. The Safran Arriel 2K engine that powers the Leonardo AW09 helicopter has received its type certificate from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). This is a milestone towards the entry into service of the AW09, Leonardo’s new single-engine helicopter, according to the manufacturer. The Arriel 2K underwent its first bench tests in 2022 and made its maiden flight on the AW09 in March 2023.

Avincis fights fires across three European countries

Many European countries are fighting out of control wildfires in their regions with Avincis, one of Europe’s largest aerial firefighting companies, helping them. So far, the emergency services operator has completed more than 9,200 flight hours and nearly 3,900 firefighting missions across Spain, Portugal and Italy during the 2026 wildfire season. Italy, France, Greece and the UKare also fighting wildfires.

McDermott Aviation uses a specially- configured Boeing 747 freighter to transport its helicopters McDermott Aviation has started deploying a major aerial firefighting fleet across Greece for the country’s 2026 fire season, marking its seventh consecutive year supporting Greek authorities.
