Tim Fitzsimons is an award-winning reporter covering the general assignment and LGBTQ beats at NBC News. He is a member of the NLGJA and a graduate of Columbia School of Journalism, where he studied politics journalism. Previously, Tim worked as a producer/reporter at NPR News in Washington, a politics and finance reporter at Marketplace radio, an editor at Al-Monitor.com and an assistant at NPR’s Beirut bureau. Aphasia affects a person's ability to speak, read, write and understand others. The condition usually comes on suddenly from a brain injury or stroke, but in some cases it can develop over time as a result of a neurodegenerative disease. When that happens, the syndrome is known as primary progressive aphasia, or PPA. Williams' team said Thursday that her PPA diagnosis came last year, after a series of medical tests. Williams, 59, was also diagnosed with dementia.

Where to find free summer meals for kids

Free meals are available for children this summer in over 30 states across the country. The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is a federally-funded, state-administered program that provides children 18 years and younger with free meals and snacks. Most kids get one or two meals per day, eaten on-site or taken to go. Up to three daily meals are also distributed to kids through these sites as well as summer camps.
