Dena Levitz’s Biography

Dena is a proud University of Georgia Bulldawg with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a minor in sociology. She’s also in the midst of earning her Master’s in Media Entrepreneurship from American University. She’s been writing professionally for almost 10 years but can’t really remember a time when she wasn’t jotting things down – whether it was to document gymnastics meets or to try her hand at rhyming poetry. Born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Dena also spent part of her childhood in Silicon Valley. She came to D.C. six years ago after being hired by the Washington Examiner as a staff writer. Her main inspiration is to keep trying new things that scare her or make her nervous or in some way emulate her hero Rocky Balboa. Her freelance work has appeared in the Washington Post, San Francisco Chronicle, The Atlantic Cities, Northern Virginia Magazine, PBS Mediashift and City Paper, amongst others.
