Beena Raghavendran’s Biography

I'm an education reporter at the Star Tribune who's obsessed with the future of journalism.
A string of internships through college landed me at the Star Tribune, where I've been covering education since 2015. I learned how to string together complex stories on deadline and reach further, too, churning out enterprise and weekend pieces about school leaders and education trends and concepts. My proudest story was a piece from fall 2017, in which our data editor and I uncovered why kids are leaving Minneapolis Public Schools.
While in Minneapolis, I've also built my digital and social skills. I started a professional Facebook page in April 2017 in hopes that it would give interested parents and teachers an accessible way to check out my stories. There, I've made social teaser videos for my stories, linking to my YouTube account. I've built graphics that boil down the news into digestible nuggets for those that missed board meetings. I've made Prezi presentations to walk readers through confusing concepts.
The future of journalism and industry trends intrigue me, and by building up both my skills at the Star Tribune, I'm ready to tackle the future of our news.
