Tropical Storm Edouard weakens inland; heat index to soar locally
MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Tropical Storm Edouard made landfall near Johnson Bayou, Louisiana on Tuesday afternoon as a 60 mph tropical storm, but the system poses no direct threat to our area. The storm is rapidly weakening as it pushes inland over Texas, moving north of Interstate 10 toward the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Its remnant circulation will continue tracking through the region Wednesday and Thursday, but our forecast remains unaffected by the tropical system.

Delivering funding for border security
Last week, my Republican colleagues and I did what Democrats spent 115 days trying to prevent and ensured that resources would be available for President Trump to continue securing the border through the end of his term. I’m glad we got it done, but let’s be honest about why we were in this position in the first place.
What is a potential tropical cyclone?
MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - A potential tropical cyclone is an organized weather disturbance that meteorologists expect will likely become a tropical storm or hurricane within the next 72 hours. The National Hurricane Center issues this designation early so that watches and warnings can be put in place.

High rip current danger expected through weekend as storms move in
MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Beachgoers should stay out of the water Friday and Saturday as dangerously high rip currents continue along the coast. Strong east and southeast winds gusting near 30 mph are accelerating the currents and creating stronger rip currents that could lead to double red flag warnings. The combination of these winds and rough surf makes water conditions especially treacherous. Your best bet is to stay out of the water.

Understanding storm surge
MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Storm surge is one of the deadliest parts of a hurricane — and it’s often misunderstood. A lot of people think they’re safe because they live far from the water. But that’s not always true. During major hurricanes like Katrina, water pushed way up into bays and rivers, backing up into neighborhoods and streets miles inland. Anything below the storm surge level — let’s say 25 feet — could see major flooding, even in areas that seem far from the coast.
