Interview

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Er, yes, but not in journalism, we had BBC computers and palm pilots

How is social media changing news?

Means there's ten billion journalists out there

What does it mean to be a journalist?

Publish and inform people of relevant news

Why did you become a journalist?

Loved to write and sniff around

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Keep trying and you will have to work for free and have at least one really crap job for quite a long time

When's the best time to pitch you?

Saturday night, around 11pm

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

Editing celebrity magazines means Enid Blyton will never be dead

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Out finding a story or, the old journalist cliche, down the pub

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

Oh what great fun you have, what a ball, as you work all week on a story that makes two lines, then hassle for months to be paid 10p
