Under-threat bird sees numbers recover in Powys thanks to restoration project

A BIRD whose numbers have plummeted in Wales over the last 30 years is enjoying a recovery in Powys thanks to a conservation project. The Eurasian curlew is currently one of the highest bird conservation priorities in Wales, with an estimated 90 per cent loss of curlew since 1993, at a rate of 6 per cent every year, leaving around 400 to 1,700 breeding pairs. It is listed as a rare upland bird, along with red grouse and golden plover.

Historic walking route will reopen – but resurfacing work did not happen

AN historic walking route through mid Wales is to reopen – but without surfacing work having been carried out. A consultation was held last year into plans to carry out surfacing and drainage works on the historic Monks Trod which is a byway, meaning it should be open to walkers, vehicles and horses, though access has been restricted.
