Meridian Housing Authority eyes $1.5M grant to help at-risk youth

The Meridian Star — The Meridian Housing Authority on Wednesday announced its application for a $1.5 million Youth Build grant through the U.S. Department of Labor. The funds will be used to provide intervention strategies and job skills to at-risk youth. MHA Executive Director Ron Turner said the program would help at-risk youth in multiple areas, including education, skills training, career planning, case management and more.

The Meridian Star — The Meridian City Council members voted Tuesday to defund vacant positions within Meridian Police Department in order to give the city's current police force a boost in pay. Ward 3 Councilman Joseph Norwood proposed the action to take the funding from 25 percent of the police department's unfilled positions and redistribute the money across MPD's payroll.
