NAD depletion in skeletal muscle does not compromise muscle function or accelerate aging
Main text (Cell Metabolism , 1460–1481.e1–e17; July 1, 2025) In the original publication of this paper, Dr. Christian Ludwig, who provided essential laboratory and interpretive work (i.e., acquisition of NMR spectra, advice on and supervision of NMR data processing and peak annotation, and software development for optimization of quantitative data analysis), was not included in the original list of authors. All co-authors have approved this addition.

Keywords NAD metabolism NAMPT skeletal muscle aging exercise mitochondrial supercomplexes epigenetic clock nicotinamide NAD+ biosynthesis reactive oxygen species Introduction Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD: NAD+ and NADH) is a cofactor that plays a central role in energy metabolism. NAD+ facilitates substrate oxidation, capturing reductive potential that is subsequently transferred to the mitochondrial electron transport chain (ETC).

α-Ketoglutarate promotes trophectoderm induction and maturation from naive human embryonic stem cells - Nature Cell Biology
Abstract Development and lineage choice are driven by interconnected transcriptional, epigenetic and metabolic changes. Specific metabolites, such as α-ketoglutarate (αKG), function as signalling molecules affecting the activity of chromatin-modifying enzymes. However, how metabolism coordinates cell-state changes, especially in human pre-implantation development, remains unclear.

Comprehensive Small Molecule Analysis Using Trapped Ion Mobility Spectrometry for Obtaining Accurate Metabolic Profiles
Trapped ion mobility spectrometry (TIMS) has enhanced the use of mass spectrometry (MS) for accurate metabolite analysis and increased our understanding of metabolic processes in human health and disease, as well as agricultural, plant, food, and nutritional sciences. This article discusses the importance of TIMS as it enhances the sensitivity, specificity, and speed of metabolite measurement, which in turn accelerates the pace of metabolomics research.
Unique features of β‐cell metabolism are lost in type 2 diabetes
1 INTRODUCTION Pancreatic islets are micro-organs dispersed throughout the pancreatic tissue, accounting for 1%–2% of wet weight mass in this organ.1, 2 Within islets, β cells are relatively more abundant than the other cell types (α, γ, δ and ɛ cells). The proportion and distribution of β cells relative to the other islet cell types are different in humans compared to rodents.

Mixed-mode chromatography-mass spectrometry enables targeted and untargeted screening of carboxylic acids in biological samples
Mixed-mode chromatography-mass spectrometry enables targeted and untargeted screening of carboxylic acids in biological samples Ondřej Hodek, Lidia Argemi-Muntadas, Adnan Khan and Thomas Moritz Abstract Carboxylic acids belong to the crucial metabolites within tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle and thus participate in central carbon metabolism (CCM).
Plasma Metabolome Profiling of Resistance Exercise and Endurance Exercise in Humans
Highlights • Exercise-mode-specific metabolomes enabled by a randomized crossover design • Temporal information on plasma metabolome dynamics • Cluster and pathway analyses reveal mode-linked changes in plasma metabolites • Metabolites with hormone-like signaling properties are regulated by exercise Summary The mechanisms by which exercise benefits human health remain incompletely understood.
Building the Biodiversity Commons
Provision of free, universal access to biodiversity information is a practical imperative for the international conservation community this goal should be accomplished by promotion of the Public Domain and by development of a sustainable Biodiversity Information Commons adapting emergent legal and technical mechanisms to provide a free, secure and persistent environment for access to and use of biodiversity information and data. The lesser occipital nerve visualized by high-resolution sonography-normal and initial suspect findings
Background The lesser occipital nerve (LON) supplies the lateral part of the occiput and is—together with the greater occipital nerve (GON)—involved in headache pathogenesis. While the GON was described in high-resolution ultrasound (HRUS), the same does not apply to the LON. We aimed at characterizing the LON in HRUS, and present cases of suspect findings in the course of the LON identified by HRUS. Methods The LON was examined bilaterally in eight anatomical specimens with HRUS (n = 16).
