Often this movement is temporary, as people seek shelter in evacuation centres or on higher ground, returning home after the immediate danger has passed. But sometimes it becomes prolonged or even permanent.

Het gaat om tenminste 35 groepen die door het hele land reizen om de komst van asielzoekerscentra tegen te houden. Dit blijkt uit een analyse van Pointer (KRO-NCRV) en Stichting Justice for Prosperity. Sinds 20 september 2025 waren Defend-leden bij 21 van de 29 anti-azc- en anti-migratiedemonstraties aanwezig.
