1 Introduction Oligoheterocyclic structures have found applications in diverse areas ranging from drug discovery to materials science. In the field of drug discovery, aromatic heterocycles feature prominently as substructures of active pharmaceuticals. The possibility to achieve high ligand efficiency, defined as binding energy per atom of a ligand, makes heterocycles attractive in fragment-based ligand discovery campaigns.
