Commentary: Finding refuge on Andrews Point
John and Ida Maki built my house at 16 Curtis St. in Rockport in 1933. I and my wife are its present owners. We have added to their house and have tried to remain true to its original design. Like John and Ida, however, Bonnie and I have created our own unique house on that property we and our tax assessor recognize as our own. Since 1983 we have fed and schooled our children from this house whose breakfast table grow bright many mornings from the sun’s rising over Pigeon Cove Harbor.

County Update: COVID-19, 1 year ago
Tim Corrigan For Steamboat Pilot & Today Routt County Commissioner Tim Corrigan STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — A year ago, on March 13, the Routt County Board of Commissioners officially declared a state of emergency in response to the spread of COVID-19. I don’t think any of us at that time could have imagined the full scope of the impacts the pandemic would visit upon vulnerable populations, businesses, students and the economy.
County Update: Doug Monger, Routt County icon
Tim Corrigan For Steamboat Pilot & Today It has been my honor and privilege to serve alongside Doug Monger as a Routt County commissioner over the past eight years. When I first came on board in 2013, Doug went out of his way to support me as a new commissioner. Opinion: Commissioners thank community members for their sacrifices
Tim Corrigan, Beth Melton and Doug Monger For Steamboat Pilot & Today Today, we write to you, valued members of our community, to say “thank you.” We are living through unprecedented times. There have been many unexpected events in our lifetimes, but it is hard to believe that anything comes close to the upheaval that has been created by the coronavirus. We, like all of you, feel frustrated and concerned about the future of our county and our country.
County Update: Aspects of healthy life in Routt County
Tim Corrigan For Steamboat Pilot & Today Routt County Commissioner Tim Corrigan As I travel around Routt County, I see many of our residents riding bike, running, skiing, walking and engaged in all kinds of healthy activities. Routt County’s natural environment lends itself to living an active and healthy lifestyle. The county supports many of our favorite outdoors areas and trails trough partnerships with the state of Colorado and the U.S. Forest Service.
County Update: How the county regulates land use
Tim Corrigan For Steamboat Pilot & Today Many of our citizens don’t fully understand the distinction between county government and that of the city of Steamboat Springs and the towns of Hayden, Oak Creek and Yampa. Last month Commissioner Beth Melton wrote an excellent column describing the statutory responsibilities of county government, and this month, I would like to describe the role Routt County plays in regulating land use in the unincorporated parts of the county.
Guest Commentary: Colorado’s David Bernhardt would be the latest fox in the hen house
Most of us are familiar with the centuries-old fable of the “fox guarding the hen house,” which describes a circumstance where someone who should not be trusted has been chosen to protect or oversee a situation. It’s kind of like choosing a bank robber to guard a bank. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what we are facing now with President Donald Trump’s nomination of David Bernhardt to be the next guardian of our nation’s public lands as secretary of the Department of Interior.
Tim Corrigan: Deeply committed to Routt County
Four years ago, voters recognized my leadership, business experience and years of service to my community and elected me to be Routt County commissioner. I replaced Nancy Stahoviak, who so ably served us for 20 years, and I have strived to emulate Nancy’s preparation, dedication and passion for Routt County. My wife, Donna, and I raised four wonderful children here, built successful businesses and became integral parts of our community.
