Just after we finalized our show for broadcast last week, local political observers were stunned by a proposed new map of Athens Clarke County Commission districts put out by the four Republican members of the county’s state legislative delegation.
For years, cities and counties all across the United States have offered fare-free public transit on election dates to encourage voters to turnout and to remove one of the many indirect costs associated with voting. The upcoming Nov. 7 election, featuring T-SPLOST on the ballot, is the perfect opportunity for Athens-Clarke County to begin offering fare-free public transit on election days.
