Abstract While TikTok is rapidly growing as a source of news for young people, they appear to have limited interest in news from traditional sources on the platform. Exploring whether there is a place for professional news within TikTok, we seek to capture young people’s experience of TikTok in all its complexity.

ABSTRACT Data donation makes it possible to invite participants to request and share their data from digital platforms for research purposes. While it is a user-centric approach to digital trace data collection, little is known about how participants experience and understand the data donation process.

Abstract Building on research on nudging as well as democratic news recommender design, this preregistered study employed a mixed-methods design to explore how interface nudges and article positioning affect news selection. Specifically, we tested whether a position nudge as well as three different types of interface nudges (e.g., popularity cues and social norm interventions) can facilitate readers’ engagement with current affairs news over other genres.
