AI agents are making retrieval engineering a core engineering discipline
AI agents are changing retrieval requirements. As organizations move from chatbots to AI systems that investigate, reason, and act on users’ behalf, retrieval is becoming the foundation of application quality. Better retrieval doesn’t just produce better answers—it enables more capable assistants, more personalized experiences, and more trustworthy autonomous systems. Traditional search and even many RAG applications could tolerate imperfect retrieval.
Is retrieval engineering becoming AI’s next bottleneck?
Public AI assistants have become so commonplace that software vendors are increasingly adding AI search, conversational experiences, and AI agents to their own applications. From eCommerce and customer support to enterprise software, AI is rapidly becoming the primary interface to many applications. Companies that build products around proprietary information are particularly well positioned to benefit from this shift.

WARRICK COUNTY — While it wasn’t on the agenda, community members let their voices be heard regarding their opposition to a data center coming to Warrick County at Monday’s meeting of the Warrick County Commissioners. One after another, community members urged local leaders to impose — at a minimum — a two-year moratorium on data centers coming to the area. There was no action by the board at Monday's meeting regarding the proposed moratorium.
AI retrieval at scale is becoming a systems problem, not a tooling problem

Early retrieval architectures focused primarily on semantic similarity. Still, production AI applications increasingly demand more from the retrieval layer: combining keyword matching, semantic retrieval, ranking, and real-time signals within a single request path.

Why online stores keep showing the wrong products — and why tensors fix it
If I search for “black running shoes for winter,” marksandspencer.com finds me a lovely pair of lace-up boots…for women. In the last six months, I’ve made 30 orders for 45 products, only one of which came from the women’s department — a pair of slippers for my mother. So there is an important signal being ignored here. Or perhaps M&S knows something about me that I don’t know myself. In fairness to M&S, modern product discovery is far more complex than it appears.

How AI Search Is Supporting Artistic Freedom
I grew up in a punk band in the 1970s (yes, The Neurons. You might have heard of us). Back then, we felt like we were pushing against the limits of cultural acceptability. But looking back, those boundaries were comparatively soft. In many parts of the world, artists don’t just risk criticism; they risk disappearance, imprisonment, exile or worse. Censorship of artistic expression is not just about banning a song or removing a painting. It affects how societies remember themselves.
The Search API Reset: Incumbents Retreat, Innovators Step Up
The search landscape is shifting. In recent months, Microsoft announced the retirement of the Bing Search API, while Google limited its own API to a maximum of 10 results per query. These moves mark a notable change in the way the web’s dominant search providers view access to their data and who gets to build on it. For more than a decade, search APIs like Bing and Google Custom Search have been part of the web’s plumbing.
No to a US war on Venezuela!

US forces have carried out at least five incidents of strikes on boats in Venezuelan waters to date, killing 37 people. Trump’s latest move has been to authorise the CIA to conduct covert operations inside Venezuela.

Enterprise AI Search vs. the Real Needs of Customer-Facing Apps
Gartner’s new “Market Guide for Enterprise AI Search” offers a valuable perspective on how generative AI is transforming enterprise knowledge access. Yet, as the focus remains on internal productivity and governance, a crucial question arises: Do the same approaches apply when search is customer-facing and directly tied to engagement, conversion and revenue?

An Ecological Disaster Is Unfolding Off The Coast Of Ghana - Time To Stop Illegal Saiko Fishing And Save The Livelihood Of Artisanal Fishers
The ancient port town of Elmina in Ghana’s Central Region is dominated by a Portuguese-built 15th century castle. Black kites hang in the thermals above the fish market, which is confined on its northern edge by a deep channel that cuts up to a brackish lagoon fed by the Benya lagoon. Doing my best to look like a tourist, I move awkwardly through the market, shooting short clips and snapping pictures with a DSLR. A hidden camera captures the scene from a button on my shirt.
Why do conservatives give money to people who hate them?
OPINION: Would you pay someone $8.99 a month to come to your house, tell you they hate everything about you and slap you directly in the face? How about $17.99 for the premium version that also keeps you out of work, prevents you from worshipping in church and teaches your kids to hate themselves and their family’s heritage?
