Who really decides the winner of the Archibald Prize?
By Tim Douglas, chief culture correspondent, The Australian For all the controversy and commentary surrounding the Archibald Prize, the judging process is both simple and opaque. Each year, up to 1000 entries arrive at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, where the finalists and the eventual winner of the country’s most famous portrait award are determined. Unlike many major international art prizes, the Archibald – which began in 1921 – is not judged by an independent panel of curators or artists.
Bipartisan attitude seems impossible for state House
Publisher’s Perspective By Tim Douglas, Publisher Just when we thought the new balance in the Minnesota State Legislature would force our representatives to be less partisan, we are witnessing a swing the other direction. On election night, House DFL leadership was disappointed that their majority had turned into a 67-67 tie with Republicans. Seats the DFL were expected to lose were lost and a few they were expected to win were lost as well.
Quarterback duo goes to Sam Darnold
Publisher’s Perspective By Tim Douglas, Publisher Two of my boys and one grandson joined 67,000 Vikings fans at U.S. Bank Stadium Sunday to watch the Vikings get a win over the Atlanta Falcons, led by former Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins. The game was a tight one until the fourth quarter when the Vikings, on the arm of Sam Darnold, scored 21 unanswered points that led to the lopsided victory.
Voter turnout was impressive in Pope County
Publisher’s Perspective By Tim Douglas, Publisher With 76.4 percent of eligible voters casting a ballot in the November election, Minnesota looks to continue its streak of having the highest voter turnout in the nation. The only challenger is Wisconsin, which had not yet certified its election results as this was being penned. Minnesota’s State Canvassing Board — which is tasked with reviewing and approving the state’s election results — met last Thursday to certify the November election.

Minnesota may again be top state in voter turnout
Publisher’s Perspective By Tim Douglas, Publisher Minnesota came out of last Tuesday’s general election with an estimated voter turnout of 75.9%, higher than initial reports and projections from every other state. That means Minnesota could take the No. 1 spot for voter turnout once again. If estimates hold after results are made official, it will mark Minnesota’s fifth general election at No. 1.
In Minnesota, all ballots are counted locally
Publisher’s Perspective By Tim Douglas, Publisher Ah, the 2024 General Election is almost here.By Wednesday, it should be history and we can move on from immersion in presidential politics. It was interesting to hear from Pope County Auditor/Treasurer Stephanie Rust last week about the popularity of early voting in Pope County.Of course some of it is due to having more “mail ballot” precincts. At of the end of the day on Thursday, Oct.

RELATED: Oatly and Friends: 10 Oat Milk Brands That Taste Better Than Dairy Early versions of dairy-free milks had some frothing challenges but we have come a long way in the last several decades.

What to do if Your Window Seal is Broken
Find out if you should DIY or call a pro when your thermopane window has moisture in between the panes of glass. I muttered various unrepeatable words to myself while assessing the haziness in the large picture window of my dining room.
