Introduction The health effects associated with PM2.5 [particles with diameters less than 2.5 μm (μm)] mass concentrations have been well studied, leading to established standards and routine monitoring.(1) However, PM2.5 consists of a mixture of particles of varying sizes from a variety of sources, with the most numerous particles by count usually falling within the ultrafine size range (<100 nm).
