An Endocrinologist, Dr Ayuba Mugana of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, says consumption of dates fruit can reduce the risk of cancer and brain diseases. Mugana said this in an interview on Friday in Bauchi. He noted that the nutritional properties of dates were necessary for brain health, reducing cancer risk, heart and eye diseases. According to him, the nutritional properties of dates include carbohydrates, fibre, and vitamins, among other minerals.

The Abia Chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has identified scarcity of equipment, human and material resources, and long working hours as major challenges hindering doctors’ optimal performance. The Chairman of the Chapter, Dr Ezinwa Ezurike, disclosed this during a press briefing on Monday at Umuahia, to mark the 2024 National Physicians Week. Ezurike commended doctors in Abia for their resilience, compassion, and expertise, in spite of these challenges.

The Bauchi state government says it has recorded two rabies cases in the state from January to October 2024. The figure indicated a 90 per cent decrease from 20 rabies cases recorded in 2023. The Director of Veterinary Services in the state Ministry of Agriculture, Dr Ibrahim Bello stated this in an interview, on Thursday in Bauchi. Bello attributed the feat achieved to proactive measures adopted by the state government to control the disease.
