Editor’s summary Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) is an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system (CNS) driven by B cells and antibodies specific to aquaporin-4. B cells require B cell–activating factor (BAFF) to maintain their function. Here, Li et al. provide evidence that a population of neutrophils expressing interferon stimulated gene 15 (ISG15) can produce BAFF in NMOSD.
