Drought Survival: Lessons from Five Generations of Ranching
Facing drought is not a new challenge for ranchers. Uncertainty amid less predictable rainfall, forage, and water availability, however, raises the stakes of everyday management decisions. We know these challenges firsthand. Our family has ranched for five generations at Collins Ranch in eastern Colorado, where we run a commercial cow-calf operation and annual rainfall averages just 13 inches.

Originally created as an academic curiosity by synthetic chemists, MIMs are a unique class of compounds which are comprised of molecular components threaded through one another, such that the ensemble is unable to separate without breaking a covalent bond.
Mangrove Tidal Inundation Regimes in Abu Dhabi, UAE, Based on Field Measurements and Numerical Modelling
You are already at the latest version The development of healthy mangroves strongly depends on several factors including water physiochemical characteristics, soil composition and tidal inundation regimes. This paper presents a characterization of tidal inundation regimes for mangroves in Abu Dhabi, based on a field measurement campaign combined with hydrodynamic modelling.

Repositioning the Leader Peptide in Graspetide Biosynthesis
Introduction Click to copy section linkSection link copied! A diverse array of chemical complexity is biosynthesized within cells. Several classes of biosynthetic pathways exist and generally produce a single target natural product. Ribosomally synthesized and post-translationally modified peptides (RiPPs) represent a family of natural products which are inherently encoded for within an organism’s genetic code.
Repositioning the Leader Peptide in Graspetide Biosynthesis
Swapping the ThfA Leader Peptide To Be a Follower Through core peptide engineering, we have previously shown ThfB to be a highly promiscuous graspetide synthetase, enabling the generation of multicyclic peptides, cyclized proteins, and cross-linked protein dimers in cellulo . (50,51) This success in engineering alternative ThfA precursors for ThfB-mediated cyclization inspired us to investigate whether the leader sequence could be moved to a follower.

Length dependent reversible off-on activation of photo-switchable relay anion transporters
Length dependent reversible off-on activation of photo-switchable relay anion transporters A homologous series of azobenzene-derived photo-switchable ion relay transporters is reported. We reveal that both the length and geometry of the relay strongly affect transport rate, allowing the relative activity of the E and Z isomers to be reversed and hence the wavelengths of light used for on and off switching to be exchanged. Responsive Anionophores with AND Logic Multi‐Stimuli Activation
Introduction The transmembrane transport of ions mediated by membrane channels and ion pumps is a fundamental process in biology that controls a wide variety of functions.1 These biological transport systems are often gated, whereby the transport activity is controlled in response to the presence of an external stimulus, such as ligand binding, light, pH, or membrane potential.2 Malfunctioning ion channels can trigger life-threatening diseases such as Cystic fibrosis, Bartter syndrome, and...

Exploiting the Catenane Mechanical Bond Effect for Selective Halide Anion Transmembrane Transport
Introduction Anions are crucially implicated in a multitude of biological processes, including the regulation of chloride concentration which is related to the osmotic pressure and pH of cells and therefore forms one of the preconditions for life. It is therefore unsurprising that nature has developed highly selective protein channels and pumps to transport charged species through otherwise ion-impermeable lipid bilayers.

Inter‐Vesicle Signal Transduction Using a Photo‐Responsive Zinc Ionophore
Abstract Transmission of chemical information between cells and across lipid bilayer membranes is of profound significance in many biological processes. The design of synthetic signaling systems is a critical step towards preparing artificial cells with collective behaviour. Here, we report the first example of a synthetic inter-vesicle signaling system, in which diffusible chemical signals trigger transmembrane ion transport in a manner reminiscent of signaling pathways in biology.

Halogen bonding relay and mobile anion transporters with kinetically controlled chloride selectivity
Halogen bonding relay and mobile anion transporters with kinetically controlled chloride selectivity† Toby G. Johnson, ‡a Andrew Docker, ‡a Amir Sadeghi-Kelishadia and Matthew J. Langton *a Abstract Selective transmembrane transport of chloride over competing proton or hydroxide transport is key for the therapeutic application of anionophores, but remains a significant challenge. Current approaches rely on enhancing chloride anion encapsulation within synthetic anionophores.
Control of dynamic sp3-C stereochemistry - Nature Chemistry
Abstract Stereogenic sp3-hybridized carbon centres are fundamental building blocks of chiral molecules. Unlike dynamic stereogenic motifs, such as sp3-nitrogen centres or atropisomeric biaryls, sp3-carbon centres are usually fixed, requiring intermolecular reactions to undergo configurational changes. Here we report the internal enantiomerization of fluxional carbon cages and the consequences of their adaptive configurations for the transmission of stereochemical information.
