Top Technology Consulting Firms for Businesses: Small-to-Medium vs. Medium-to-Large
Todd Peterson · Follow 4 min read · -- Photo by Marvin Meyer on Unsplash Technology consulting has become a cornerstone for businesses looking to thrive in a digital-first world. Whether you’re a small startup navigating your first tech stack or a global corporation undergoing a digital transformation, the right consulting partner can make all the difference.
Automatic Sensor and Action Selection
Keywords automatic sensor, action selection, Q-learning, RBF networks College Physical and Mathematical Sciences Department Computer Science Abstract Continuous state spaces can be quite useful in Q-learning. Many real world problems are simply not discrete. An attempt to represent continuous values using a discrete state space is inherently problematic, as the selected level of discritization will likely be imperfect and unable to adapt to change.
"Using a Reinforcement Learning Controller to Overcome Simulator/Enviro" by Nancy Owens and Todd Peterson
Keywords reinforcement, learning controller, simulator, environment discrepancies College Physical and Mathematical Sciences Department Computer Science Abstract Robotic controllers often fail to perform well when transferred from a simulated environment to a real-world situation. Such failures are caused by discrepancies between a simulator and the real-world system which it is intended to model.
Agent Decompositions in Reinforcement Learning Architectures
Keywords agent decompositions, reinforcement learning architectures, learning speed College Physical and Mathematical Sciences Department Computer Science Abstract Reinforcement learning is a sub-discipline of machine learning in which an autonomous program, called an agent, learns to behave appropriately in its environment. Appropriate behavior is described in terms of numerical reinforcements which the agent receives for appropriate or inappropriate actions.
Memory-guided Exploration in Reinforcement Learning
Keywords memory-guided exploration, reinforcement learning, Q-learning, Q-value College Physical and Mathematical Sciences Department Computer Science Abstract Traditional reinforcement learning techniques learn a single task by giving the agent positive and negative rewards. In one type of reinforcement learning, called Q-learning, the agent stores Qvalues, which are the expected reward for performing an action in a given state.
Morse code over Wifi
Things used in this project Hardware components Infineon CY8CPROTO-062-4343W https://www.infineon.com/cms/en/product/evaluation-boards/cy8cproto-062-4343w/ × 1 The project simply blinks the onboard LED to represent a message in Morse code format that was sent sent via UDP over Wifi. The project is easily extendible to perform other actions rather than blink the LED. For example, this could be a microphone click that could control a remote device over RF.
Cataloging Finished Meads
#1 Good evening folks. As I start to put more and more mead into bottles for future consumption, I realized that I needed to come up with a method to distinguish one batch from another. I bottle everything in clear 12 ounce or 750 ml crown cap bottles. As I reuse the bottles, I have been apprehensive to use adhesive labels that I have to try to remove in the future. My poor man’s solution was 3/4 inch Avery circular labels.
BAE Systems’ NavGuide™ - A GPS receiver designed with the user in mind
Global Positioning Systems (GPS) are invaluable to everyday life. Whether it’s finding your way to the airport or guiding a delivery to your door, the civilian world has come to rely on GPS technology. In the military world, it is critical to outpacing the threat. GPS delivers critical positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) information to warfighters in hostile and/or physically challenging environments such as sandstorms or fog.
Potassium Metabisulfite Dosage to Minimize Oxidation
Good evening folks. I hope you all are on the front end of a great weekend. I am curious if any of you dose your mead with K Meta as you are working on your mead (racking and or bottling) to minimize the impact of oxidation. I currently use K Meta in combination with K Sorbate for stabilization. I have recently heard mead makers that utilize K Mets to protect against oxidation. Some of the folks have equipment to test for free sulfites.
Best Return on Investment for Mead Making Equipment
Good morning folks. As the title of the thread inquires, what is the gear that you have purchased to support your mead making hobby that was a game changer and worth the investment? I’m a “buy once cry once” kind of guy. I do not mind the cash outlay (within reason) for good gear that provides a notable improvement in process or quality of final product. I’m still relatively new to the hobby.
Fermentation Temperature Protocol
Good afternoon folks. For those of you that have the ability to manipulate the temperature of your must as it ferments, do you follow a specific protocol changing the temp early or late to obtain the desired effect? Or do you set it and forget it? I maintain a low temp through the use of an insulated bag and frozen 2 liter bottles. It’s crude but it works if you are around to replace the frozen bottles as needed.
How Does JumpCloud Support OpenID Connect?
Cloud computing has changed the world in many ways, especially when it comes to security standards. Leading organizations are now adopting single sign-on (SSO) solutions in the face of increased security vulnerabilities brought about by remote work policies, AWS’ outsourced data center infrastructure, and disorganized password management. SSO technology allows users to access all of their applications that support common standards with a single username and password.
How to Modernize Legacy and Next Gen Cloud Identity and Access Management
This past year challenged IT and security departments globally as the mass shift in the workforce sped up plans for cloud migration. In fact, a recent Gartner survey found that 70% of organizations using cloud services today plan to increase their cloud spending in the wake of the disruption caused by COVID-19. Although SaaS applications offer countless benefits, these benefits are lost without proper security.

How to Prevent Seasonal Workers From Becoming a Security Threat
As the holiday season ramps up, many retailers are unaware that one of the industry’s best practices could put them at risk of a breach: hiring seasonal workers. Last year, retailers hired more than 757,000 temporary employees to keep up with the busy shopping season. And while it may seem like only good can come from the extra help, security incidents prove otherwise.
Managing key challenges in an evolving higher-ed IT landscape
As institutions adopt new technologies, higher-ed IT leaders must be aware of the challenges accompanying these new trends. One such example is rapidly proving why IT teams must stay on top of new developments. Azure Active Directory is a web-based authentication and authorization platform based on Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform that is growing in popularity.
5 Signs of a Privileged Access Abuser
With 80% of breaches linked to privileged access credentials, effectively managing and monitoring privileged accounts often means the difference between keeping your organization secure and a catastrophic cyber incident. All it takes is for the right hacker to gain access to the right credentials and it could cost your business upwards of millions of dollars, not to mention a tarnished reputation and lost customers.

Cheap-shot artists target the mentally ill
After the conclusion of every election cycle, even political junkies like myself are ready for a timeout. However, shortly before the election, there was an egregiously nasty media eruption that needs to be called out. On Oct. 9, CNN’s deplorable Don Lemon sank to a new low, moderating a panel discussion on Kanye West’s rather […] You Need to be Logged in and have an Active Subscription Qualifying Print Subscribers have Full Access to everything on rep-am.com and our E-Edition.

Over Half Of SMBs Have Experienced A Data Breach
Following Cisco’s SMB Cybersecurity Report, which has revealed that 53% of midmarket companies have experienced a data breach, Todd Peterson, Product Manager at One Identity, discusses why they are such an attractive target to hackers and how they can protect against attack. “There are so many more SMBs than there are large enterprises, so the number of targets is much higher.

Violence from the left looms for U.S.
To this point, conservatives like myself have been able to experience some schadenfreude while witnessing the mental and emotional implosions of the Institutional Left, after the 2016 presidential election and its aftermath. Best practices for effective Privileged Access Management
It feels like almost every week, we hear of a new breach, and each week, we’re thankful it wasn’t our company. But how long can we dodge the breach bullet? No one wants to be the next headline, but what can we do to ensure that we aren’t? The common denominator in virtually every breach is that somehow, someone who shouldn’t have access to your company’s system and data sources has found a way in. The bad guys are smart, creative and motivated, and can use even the smallest opening.

Agencies fail to adequately measure critical infrastructure adoption of NIST cyber framework
“None of the SSAs had measured the cybersecurity framework’s implementation by entities within their respective sectors. None of the 16 coordinating councils reported having qualitative or quantitative measures of framework adoption because they generally do not collect specific information from entities about critical infrastructure protection activities. SSA officials also stated that the voluntary nature and other factors are impediments to collecting such information,” the report said.

Major CPU Flaws Meltdown, Spectre Put Most Computers at Risk - Security Boulevard
The new year started with an announcement that has shaken the entire computer industry: Many modern processors found in servers, laptops and mobile devices are vulnerable to a new class of attacks that could expose sensitive information. The vulnerabilities were discovered independently by multiple researchers and have been reported to CPU manufacturers and all major OS vendors over the past six months.
Internet of Things In Healthcare – What to Expect in 2018? - Security Boulevard
We are heading into an era which embraces the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial Intelligence (AI), and machine learning (MI) that have immensely overturned the tech world. With particular reference to IoT, it has profoundly impacted global commerce and lifestyle. If this existing pace remains consistent, then it wouldn’t be onerous to predict the trends that we might witness in the upcoming year.

Bridging the Gap: Why feds struggle to act on cybersecurity mandates [Commentary]
In recent years, numerous efforts have been made to boost cybersecurity. Initiatives such as the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Cybersecurity Framework and the Cybersecurity Executive Order have both offered guidance and put pressure on federal agencies to ramp up security. Even so, there are still challenges when it comes to implementation.

Listen to Every Pitch Change in a Pacific Wren Call
Pacific Wren. Photo: Aaron Budgor/Flickr (CC BY-NC-ND 2.0) This audio story is brought to you by BirdNote, a partner of the National Audubon Society. BirdNote episodes air daily on public radio stations nationwide. Listen carefully to the song of the Pacific Wren. What we hear as a blur of sound, the Pacific Wren hears as a precise sequence of sounds. That birds can hear so acutely the fine structure of song allows them to convey much information in a short sound.

Organisations must wake up and ensure they actively manage cyber-security
In the past few weeks and months we have seen a massive increase in public hacks and threats hitting the news. Organisations around the world were impacted by WannaCry ransomware which encrypted files, resulting in UK hospitals being immobilised, causing outages of Deutsche Bahn display panels, forcing Honda to take production plants offline and resulting in hundreds of speeding fines have become invalid caused by infected speed cameras.
Avoiding the trap of data breach fatigue using identity analytics
It seems that every day there's a new breach in the news – ransomware, identity theft, nation/state-sponsored cyber-terrorism, and the good old standbys of phishing and zero day attacks. Businesses need to face a new reality where they are under constant attack from cyber-criminals. With the “data breach of day” headlines constantly hitting the media, it's easy for companies to get sucked into the data breach fatigue vortex and to bury their heads in the sand.
