The Chicago White Sox front office confirmed they are not looking for a franchise savior with whom they will select No. 1 overall. Amateur scouting director Mike Shirley spoke with reporters and laid out that since the club is ahead of schedule toward being a contender, the franchise will select who it deems is the best player among three options. Those three options are UCLA shortstop Roch Cholowsky, Georgia Tech catcher Vahn Lackey, and the top prep prospect, shortstop Grady Emerson.

The Chicago White Sox must prove that Friday night’s dominance of the Athletics was not a mirage. The 9-2 victory could be the beginning of the team turning things around after an awful start to the season. It might just be a one-night reprieve, and the team’s problems will continue. The hope was that it would not look as ugly as it has during the first few weeks. This club looks like it could flirt seriously with losing 100 games for the fourth straight season, aside from a few games.

When to Start Worrying About the Struggling White Sox Lineup

Standard baseball logic dictates not being overly concerned with the Chicago White Sox getting off to another poor start to the season. However, terrible starts doomed this franchise to three consecutive 100-loss seasons, including a record 121 losses. So, make no apologies for already having that sense of dread that this season will be another painful slog to endure. The White Sox were not expected to compete for a playoff spot.
