Four Months After Hard Landing at JFK, Crippled RAM 767 Nearly Repaired - NYCAviation
On the afternoon of April 20th, Royal Air Maroc Flight 200 was completing a routine Atlantic crossing from Casablanca, carrying 210 passengers and 10 crew. The weather on approach to JFK’s runway 4R, however, was not so routine, the airport being battered by rain and 28kt gusts. The 767-36N/ER (CN-RNT) was unstable as she crossed the numbers, and proceeded to slam down, nose wheel first, before settling on her main landing gear.
Merger Mania! - NYCAviation
EXTRA! EXTRA! Airlines to merge! Cities to lose service! Employees getting the pink slip! Shareholders celebrate by purchasing new BMW! Yes, folks, the new trend for 2008 is “Mergers.” After years of cutting back on service, removing enough mainline jets from airline fleets to equal one entire airline the size of Continental, the airlines still think there is too much capacity in the United States. Therefore, in order to survive they need to merge and further reduce service and choice.
Journey of a Thousand Photos - NYCAviation
Ever since I can remember I have enjoyed planes. I love watching them, hearing them, flying in them (obviously) and at one point in my life I started taking pictures of them. I remember clearly the first picture I took of a plane: It was an Eastern Airlines 727 at Islip MacArthur Airport. I was 10 years old at the time traveling to Disney World with my mother.
The Delayed Traveler - NYCAviation
One doesn’t have to be a super gold, diamond, emerald, extra special VIP traveler to have experienced the delays that plague the three major New York area airports. This summer saw the worst delays at JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark since what has become known as the “infamous summer of 2000.” The taxiways at JFK resembled something more like the L.I.E. on a Friday evening heading to the Hamptons; you knew you’d get there, you just didn’t know when.
787: The Magic is Back - NYCAviation
Years of research, countless man hours, 677 orders and a true global partnership was the hallmark of today’s events here in Washington State. For most people July 8, 2007 was just another casual Summer Sunday like any other. However, today was the start of something new. A revolution. An opportunity to connect the world like it’s never been connected before, and most importantly, the day the magic returned to air travel.
2006: A Year in Review - NYCAviation
Ah what a year it has been, its been year of ups, downs, roundabouts, flip flops, and OIL! We began the year with the final departure of Independence Air, the little airline that couldn’t, or should we say couldn’t make a profit. What do you expect from an airline that handed out bumper stickers that said “I am not normal?” That should have been our first clue.
When I'm Looking Up, He's Looking Down - NYCAviation
It goes without saying that anyone who loves aviation instinctively looks up to the sky when they hear a plane passing over. It doesn’t matter what kind of plane, any time I hear that whine of prop or the roar of a jet, I always look up. Recently on this site there was a post in the aviation forum titled “How you got into aviation.” I read through many of the responses by the forum members and it got me thinking what sparked my interest in aviation.
The "B" in Business Travel Stands For… - NYCAviation
Well I wont go there, yet. For the good part of the last three years I’ve done some pretty decent business travel and I wanted to take a minute and share some stories and dispel some myths about frequent travel for business. Now, I’m a plane geek and proud of it, and so are you if you’re part of this site. But before you put on your propeller hat and say “Oh man I’d love to travel for my job,” settle down.
Pigs Fly at New York Airports - NYCAviation
So it has finally happened. What you ask? Well, pigs have flown. I say this because the JD Power Awards are out and both LGA and JFK have received top ratings. LGA in fact was awarded the highest in customer satisfaction for medium sized airports; JFK was ranked second for large airports. I know this must be hard to believe but, yes sir, both JFK and LGA are tops in the country. If they are the top just think how bad LAX must be? So I’m saying to myself, whom did JD Power survey?
