Who said work-capable electric utes couldn’t come cheap? North American automotive startup, Slate Auto, has revealed pricing for its bespoke EV ute and SUV twins, known as the Slate Truck, Slate Squareback and Slate Fastback. All three of Slate Auto’s products are expected to launch in North America by the fourth quarter of 2026, with pricing now confirmed to start from $US24,950 before on-road costs for the Slate Truck, $US29,950 for the Squareback, and $US31,950 for the Fastback.

XPeng launching free-to-use Full Self-Driving rival in Australia in 2027 but existing G6 will not support VLA 2.0

XPeng says it is ready to launch its VLA 2.0 supervised full-self driving technology outside of China, with the rival to Tesla’s FSD technology set to be switched on in Australia in 2027. “We think that we might be the only competition to Tesla globally in terms of automotive,” XPeng international marketing lead Daniel Wu told Australian media, including Chasing Cars.

Chinese carmaker XPeng’s international markets boss Alex Tang has confirmed to Chasing Cars that the brand is about to commence a major product offensive in Australia with at least four new models launching locally before the end of 2026. While a single XPeng model—the Tesla Model Y-rivalling G6 midsize SUV—was introduced to Australia in September 2024, the brand was until recently represented by local distribution company TrueEV.
