A century ago this week, the paper’s London workers refused to print an editorial urging the public to resist a threatened general strike, which it dubbed “revolutionary”. A short walk away in Downing Street however, Trades Union Congress negotiators knew nothing of the printers’spontaneous, unofficial walkout.
