New housing, hotel and brewery all attract city council’s attention Economic developer John Fedo touted a flurry of activity Tuesday night, highlighting progress on numerous fronts in Ely. “There are a number of new projects and an extension of existing projects,” Fedo told council members at city hall, during the monthly meeting of the city’s economic development authority. Most notable was last week’s groundbreaking for a new apartment complex in Ely.

School board filings set to open July 14

The election isn’t until November, but candidate filings are rapidly approaching for this year’s Ely School Board election. A two-week filing period for candidates begins on July 14 and runs through July 28. The board is set to have at least one new member as incumbent Tony Colarich announced in May that he won’t seek a third term on the board. Colarich said he made the announcement early to give people notice and perhaps encourage prospective candidates to run.
