Thomas Mwiraria’s Biography
Thomas Mwiraria is a multi-media journalist, writer, communications specialist, and media scholar . As a journalist, he focuses on under-represented voices, inclusion, health, Culture, Heritage, and environment. He has a combined experience of 7 years of experience in creative writing, feature writing, long-form journalism, mobile video journalism , data journalism, investigative journalism , and solutions journalism .
He has done cross-border story-telling collaborations, and his works have been published local and international digital media including: YALI Network, YALI RLCEA , The corespondent , Environment Africa , UN environment ;GEO-For Youth Africa, Thomson Foundation, Fondazione Aurora, Nation Africa, NTV Kenya, Pulse Live, and Mobile Journalism Africa.
As a reporter, Mwiraria has Participate has been Awarded ISU Elihle Fellowship For Innovative Children Reporting 2021, participated in Wellcome and SciDev , Virtual ,Big Data Hackathon 2021, Awarded National Association of Science Writers Grant 2021, Master of Arts in Digital Journalism and Communications 2021 Facebook Mobile Video Journalism Fellowship 2020, Infonile Water Reporting Grant 2020, Climate Tracker Dry-land Reporting and Sustainable Diets Reporting Fellowship 2020, The Journalism Scholar Prize 2019, YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa Fellowship 2019, Africa Leadership Institute Fellowship 209, and Eco-Warrior Award 2018.
He is the Author‘The Land of bones’ -a collection of short stories, ,and Co-author of ‘Broken Rhythm, an anthology of short-stories.
He holds an undergraduate degree in Business Management ( Marketing major) from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Kenya, and currently studying Master of Arts in Digital Journalism and Communications at The Agakhan University Graduate School of Media and Communications.
He has Guest Lectured Digital Journalism at KCA University Kenya, and appeared on numerous TV, Radio, and Digital Media talk shows on the art of story-telling.
Mwiraria is a member of Media Council of Kenya, International Center for Journalists, association of Freelance Journalist, Earth Journalism Network, Investigative Journalism Network , Solutions Journalism Network.
