Timothy Barnes was not targeting strangers when he set about swindling people out of nearly £2m - these were his friends and neighbours. Those who knew him best, or so they thought. Barnes was after all a financial advisor, living among them in the close-knit Warwickshire village - someone they all trusted. Known as Paul, he was a familiar and respected face. But behind that reputation, he started borrowing money under false pretences from those very people, even including a criminal lawyer.

Follow Family tribute to 'kindest' biker after fatal crash Stephen Peek's family said they would "miss him every day" [West Midlands Police] Tributes have been paid to a "kind and caring" grandfather who died in a motorcycle crash. Emergency services were called to the single-vehicle crash on Mackadown Lane, in Tile Cross, Birmingham, at 05:55 BST on Monday. The rider, Stephen Peek, suffered serious injuries and was rushed to hospital for treatment, where he died shortly after.
