Within the span of 12 horses, Don Alberto sold a $1.9 million filly (Hip 85) through Gainesway to West Bloodstock, agent for Robert and Lawana Low; and a colt (Hip 97) through Lane's End to Flying Dutchmen. Don Alberto bred the Curlin filly out of graded-placed stakes winner Matera (by Tapit), who is a half sister to grade 1-placed, grade 3 winner and multiple grade 1 winner , who are both prominent stallions.

Southport's Live Oak Café is in a quaint little 100-year-old bungalow that exudes charm. Three small dining rooms and a porch provide a cozy atmosphere for creative cuisine as provided by chef and owner Sean Mundy. Original culinary creations are presented beautifully at Live Oak, a feast for the eyes as well as the palate.

It's been close to 30 years since I first dined at The Pilot House, but the best things about the place are still there.
