The Hamas terrorist attack can not be justified. It was not "justified."
Mon Oct 9, 2023, 11:13 AM However it, or something else along those lines, had become almost inevitable. Rabin and Arafat signed off almost exactly twenty years ago on the Oslo accords, pointing toward a two state solution. Twenty years is a life time, literally, for many of the Hamas terrorists. If a flame heats a pressure cooker for too long eventually it blows. It sickens me when anyone attempts to justify what those Hamas terrorists just did.
Payrolls increased by 336,000 in September, much more than expected
Fri Oct 6, 2023, 08:32 AM Source: CNBC Published Fri, Oct 6 2023 8:31 AM EDT Updated 18 Min Ago Job growth was stronger than expected in September, a sign that the U.S. economy is hanging tough despite higher interest rates, labor strife and dysfunction in Washington. Nonfarm payrolls increased by 336,000 for the month, better than the Dow Jones consensus estimate for 170,000, the Labor Department said Friday in a much-anticipated report.

We are not in a Culture War. We are in a Cold Civil War
Wed Sep 27, 2023, 10:45 AM There have ALWAYS been cultural divisions in America. It is an ugly truth that, over what now has been centuries, one demagogue or another, one political party or another, always tries to weaponize them for their personal or partisan gains. But something different is going on now.
Last 3 men charged with plotting to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer found not guilty
Fri Sep 15, 2023, 11:28 AM Source: ABC News The last three men to stand trial in connection with a plot to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer have been found not guilty on all counts. Eric Molitor and twin brothers William Null and Michael Null were among the 14 men charged in state and federal court over the alleged plan to kidnap the governor at her vacation home in Antrim County in 2020, largely over the Democratic governor's strict COVID-19 shutdowns.

Response to struggle4progress (Original post) Thu Aug 17, 2023, 11:47 PM Because of Trump's spite, he has thrown her out of the MAGA nest. No more MAGA paid for legal fees securing her loyalties. It's all going to fall apart quickly for Trump and his allies
Response to Mr. Ected (Reply #8) Thu Aug 17, 2023, 11:47 AM All McConnell had to do after Trump’s second impeachment was tell his fellow senators to vote for conviction and a permanent bar from future office. Republicans might not have gained the House majority in 2022, but they haven’t accomplished anything anyway. And with Trump out of the picture for four years, they would have had an opportunity to rebuild without him.
The best time to shoot someone on 5th Avenue is while running for President
Tue Aug 15, 2023, 12:31 PM Any criminal prosecution of a major party candidate during a presidential campaign is clearly partisan persecution and blatant election interference, by definition, case closed, according to the G.O.P. No need to review any evidence. Defund the Special Prosecutor, Replace the District Attorney, Pardon any and all participants! How dare anyone allege that crimes could have been committed by an announced presidential candidate?!?
Anchor Brewing is going out of business
https://missionlocal.org/2019/12/breaking-anchor-brewery-workers-overwhelmingly-approve-first-union-contract/ DECEMBER 20, 2019 By a gaudy 49-3 vote, workers at Anchor Brewing have ratified their first union contract, a happy occasion they hope results in much drinking of Anchor beer, both on and off the De Haro and Mariposa facility. The workforce here in March voted to organize with the International Longshore and Warehouse Union.
I'm straight, white, and male. I lost getting some good jobs due to Affirmative Action.
Thu Jun 29, 2023, 03:29 PM I have no complaints. Not then, not now. I understood the need to hire someone else. I supported the decision not to give me the job. This was in the 80's. The organizations I was applying at were in the community mental health field. They wanted and needed a diversified staff. In both cases qualified people were hired, and that is all I needed to know.
Ramaswamy proposes raising voting age to 25, unless people serve in military or pass a test
Response to Model35mech (Reply #2) Fri May 12, 2023, 05:30 PM 13. Yes, but trying to actually pass this amendment would atlter future elections, against them. Nothing would more likely motivate young non voters to show up on election day than Republicans insulting them by claiming they can't be trusted with the vote, while trying to rip that right away from them. Montana bill sponsor argues suicide is a better choice than trans care.
But what I saw did not fully establish the statement in the OP title. It is not clear that this woman would prefer that her daughter die from suicide than go through transition. What is clear is that she preferred to accept the very high risk that her daughter might kill herself rather than allow transition surgery. That is more than frightening enough.
Pope allows women to vote at upcoming bishops' meeting
Source: AP VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Francis has decided to give women the right to vote at an upcoming meeting of bishops, an unprecedented change that reflects his hopes to give women greater decision-making responsibilities and laypeople more say in the life of the Catholic Church. Francis approved changes to the norms governing the Synod of Bishops, a Vatican body that gathers the world’s bishops together for periodic meetings, following decades of demands by women to have the right to vote.
"But his age," is disingenuous.
I weight the age of a person running for office when considering whether to support them. I accept it as a scientific fact that humans have decreasing energy as they reach increasingly advanced ages. It is true of me at 73 compared to me at 53. Age is not the only factor to consider. In many cases with increased age comes increased wisdom, but in some cases with increased age comes increased cognitive difficulties. Jimmy Carter has been sharp as a tack for every year of his remarkable long life.

Right about now I'm glad the DOJ filed charges against 1,000+ in that insurrection mob
Sat Mar 18, 2023, 01:29 PM Much credit where much credit is due. Sure, I am unhappy that almost no one who was pulling strings for the insurrection has been charged yet, but a lot of people whose strings were pulled have been. THEY, and the crowd they all hang with, know the legal system stands ready to ensnare those who riot against the government. Good old fashioned deterrence at work.

Manchin can do whatever he wants now as far as I'm concerned, except run for President
Mon Mar 6, 2023, 10:34 AM We've gotten as much from him as is possible for a Senator from West Virginia. His vote was crucial to making Schumer Majority Leader in the last session of Congress, and he enabled SOME of Biden's agenda to pass, giving his presidency some noteworthy and important accomplishments. Essentially I think of him as a centrist Independent from a State that otherwise elects right wing Republicans. He can call himself a Democrat now or not, I don't care.

I was on the road in New Mexico I left my home on Long Island earlier that summer to hitchhike across the country alone. It was sort of a quest I was making, with almost nothing in the way of pre-made plans. On the way back from the west coast I landed in Santa Fe for a few days, then made it to Albuquerque.

'The Democratic Party in New York Is a Disaster'
Wed Feb 22, 2023, 08:48 AM New York Times Elsewhere in the country, state Democratic parties are much more robust than they are in New York. Neo-Nazi leader and girlfriend accused of targeting Md. power stations
Source: Washington Post A neo-Nazi leader recently released from prison has been arrested again and accused of plotting an attack on the Maryland power grid with a woman he met while incarcerated. Brandon Russell, 27, and Sarah Clendaniel, 34, are expected to make their first appearance Monday in Baltimore federal court on a charge of conspiring to destroy an energy facility, which carries up to 20 years in prison.
A parent doesn't hate their kid if they admit that they once did something really bad
Mon Feb 6, 2023, 09:50 AM Just like I don't hate America by admitting that slavery was evil. It really is that fucking simple. Everyone is an ongoing mix of honorable and less than honorable deeds. Pretending that the latter don't exist is asinine. No decent parent would ever raise their kids that way.

Someone once called Conservatism, "ineffectual fascism". I tend to agree with that assumption. While the two ideologies are not the same, they are cousins. I never bought into the idea that Conservatives just want "smaller government", "fiscal responsibility", and "family values".

Biden warns world would face 'Armageddon' if Putin uses a tactical nuclear weapon in Ukraine
Response to DENVERPOPS (Reply #4) Thu Oct 6, 2022, 10:59 PM 8. I respect your opinion but, he isn't pulling his soldiers back. They are falling back out of desperation. They don't want to get encircled. They are also surrendering in record numbers. They are, by all accounts, poorly motivated, poorly equipped, poorly trained. They are better off giving up in order to live. I can't see how Russia gains anything by making the coastline uninhabitable. But, he may choose another area to "test" his weapon.
9 NATO members urge support for Ukraine after annexation
Response to Yo_Mama_Been_Loggin (Original post) Sun Oct 2, 2022, 12:48 PM 1. The rest of NATO needs to step up to the plate also. Appeasing Putin only leads to his further aggression, and allowing this war to drag out also means continuing inflation, food shortages, and shortages of fuel to heat homes throughout much of Europe this winter. NATO needs to give Ukraine all the weapons they need to decimate the Russian Army now.
Russian Invasion of Ukraine - Russian Forces Retreat From Lyman
Source: New York Times Here’s what we know: The loss of the strategic rail hub in the east is particularly poorly timed for the Kremlin after its internationally derided illegal annexation of four Ukrainian regions. Russia’s withdrawal from Lyman comes a day after Putin said he was annexing the region. Broken glass, blown-out tires and a crater show the violence of a deadly attack in Zaporizhzhia.

Ukraine war: Russia accuses US of direct role in Ukraine war

Lt Gen Igor Konashenkov said intercepted calls between Ukrainian officials revealed the link. The BBC could not independently verify this. There was no immediate comment on the allegation from US officials.

$29,000 for an average used car? Would-be buyers are aghast
Response to Dial H For Hero (Reply #5) Mon Jan 3, 2022, 10:13 AM 8. Used Porsche prices have gone totally nuts over the last year I bought a 2017 Macan S for $35,500 about 13 months ago. The same car with the same options goes for about $45,000-$50,000 now. Iíd love to move up to a 911, but those prices are untouchable. I hear that people are getting MSRP as trade in value for 2019 and newer 911s.
