I was furiously typing away at my laptop Monday when I jumped at the jarring, high-pitched sound of a phone alert warning me about an “armed threat” in Côte-des-Neiges. We all know what happened next. Montrealers (especially women) live with the trauma of the Polytechnique massacre, so a part of me did wonder if this, too, would turn out to be another angry male taking out his disappointment at the world by shooting at it. I didn’t have to wait long to confirm the sinking feeling in my stomach.
