Jul. 8—When Brig. Gen. Theodore Roosevelt Jr. stepped onto Utah Beach on D-Day, North Dakotans already knew him. The 56-year-old general, walking with a cane and quietly hiding a heart condition, was the only general to land in the first wave of the invasion. Little more than a month later, he would die of a heart attack and receive the Medal of Honor for his leadership.

FARGO — In the spring of 1976, Debbie Sherwood seemed to be everywhere. The 21-year-old Moorhead State University student modeled fashions for DeLendrecies, showed her pottery at college art shows and dreamed about what could be. Debbie Sherwood, an art student and part time model shown in an unusual photo spread for DeLendrecies bridal department. Around this time, she approached Fargo city leaders with an idea to hold an arts fair downtown.
