1. Introduction Thin shells based on Kirchhoff–Love (KL) theory account for both membrane and bending components, and when a thin shell with a rest-curved configuration is relaxed to a rest-flat shape when unstressed, it is treated as a thin plate. Compared to the membrane component, the bending component is particularly important for capturing the formation of folds and wrinkles. In this study, we concentrate on developing and analyzing bending models for thin plates and shells.
