'Troymaha': Troy baseball headed to College World Series with sweep of Little Rock

The Cinderella run continues for the Troy Trojans baseball squad. With a sweep of Little Rock in the Troy Super Regional in front of a reported 13,459 fans across two days, the Trojans are now headed to Omaha to play in the College World Series. Troy defeated Little Rock 12-2 in game one on Friday and then punched its ticket to Omaha with a 7-2 win on Saturday.

BIRMINGHAM — On Friday, the U.S. Coast Guard held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Birmingham-Southern College (BSC) campus to launch its new training center. Aptly named after the recently shuttered college, Training Center Birmingham-Southern will now be an institution of learning for the Coast Guard, with a mission to continue carrying on BSC's legacy. The campus was purchased for $126.5 million this year.

'A system that badly needs fixing': Saban goes to bat for college sports reform bill in Senate hearing

During a Wednesday U.S. Senate committee hearing, legendary former Alabama football coach Nick Saban testified in favor of a new bill to reform college athletics. The Protect College Sports Act, drafted after months of negotiations between U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), would grant the NCAA an antitrust exemption to enforce several rules that have been challenged in court in recent years.
