What does it mean to be a journalist?

It means listening instead of telling. It means dedicating yourself to truth, even though you realize it's a false construct.

Why did you become a journalist?

Hunter S. Thompson was a big influence in high school, but I wanted to become a novelist and speak truth to power.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

Uncovering the false rumor behind 'Narcan parties' for The Outline.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Quit now. Just kidding. Get a job that pays well and treat freelancing as a side-gig until you get good enough to go pro.
