Dangerous heat grips metro Atlanta with temperatures nearing 100 degrees

The CBS News Atlanta NEXT Weather team has issued a NEXT Weather Alert through the weekend and into the start of next week as dangerous heat builds across metro Atlanta and North Georgia. High temperatures are expected to reach the mid- to upper 90s Friday through Monday. By Monday, Atlanta could approach 100 degrees, with heat index values making it feel as hot as 110 degrees over the next several days. Most of Georgia is under a heat advisory from noon Friday until 8 p.m. Saturday.

Heavy rain could cause flash flooding across North and Central Georgia through Thursday evening

Keep the umbrella close Thursday. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop across North and Central Georgia during the afternoon, bringing heavy rain that could cause localized flash flooding. The National Weather Service said storms with high rainfall rates could create flooding problems through Thursday evening. Some storms may also produce gusty winds and frequent lightning.

Heat advisory returns to parts of north Georgia as triple-digit heat, isolated storms are expected Wednesday

North Georgia will once again be dealing with dangerous heat on Wednesday, with a Heat Advisory in effect for parts of the region as temperatures and humidity combine to push the heat index into the triple digits. Wednesday marks the third straight day of heat advisories across parts of north Georgia.
