"The New Schoolbag" tells the story of Hai Sang, a boy born and raised in a poor riverside village in the Mekong Delta. At the start of the new school year, Hai Sang enters sixth grade with mixed feelings of excitement and apprehension, a boy leaving his small school for the first time. His mother, Mrs. Nam Co, has little to offer besides her small boat, her calloused hands, and her love for her son. On the first day of school, Hai Sang receives a new schoolbag in a very special way.
