Diagnostic Accuracy of Salivary Thiols Point-of-Care Test for Detecting Subgingival Dysbiosis in Adults: A Cross-Sectional Study
1 Introduction The role of subgingival bacterial dysbiosis in the initiation and progression of periodontal diseases is well documented (Hajishengallis et al. 2012, 2015, 2020). Dysbiotic bacterial alterations that involve increased levels of Porphyromonas gingivalis, Treponema denticola, and Tannerella forsythia in subgingival plaque have been associated with increased risk for destructive periodontitis (Socransky et al. 1998; Darveau 2010; Suzuki et al. 2013).
Diabetes exacerbates experimental peri-implantitis in mice with elevated IL-17A-associated inflammation and IL-17F upregulation
Abstract This study investigated the role of interleukin-17 (IL-17) and the oral microbiome in peri-implant inflammation and bone loss under hyperglycemic and normoglycemic conditions. Wild-type (WT) and diabetic (db/db) mice with maxillary implants underwent ligature placement with or without IL-17A neutralization. Bone loss, osteoclast activity, inflammatory cytokines, Th17/Treg balance, and expression of IL-17Family members were analyzed.
New Insights into Human Nostril Microbiome from the Expanded Human Oral Microbiome Database (eHOMD): a Resource for the Microbiome of the Human Aerodigestive Tract
The eHOMD is a resource for microbiome research on the human upper digestive and respiratory tracts. As described below, the eHOMD (http://www.ehomd.org) is a comprehensive, actively curated, web-based resource open to the entire scientific community that classifies 16S rRNA gene sequences at a high resolution (98.5% sequence identity).
A positive feedback loop mediated by Sigma X enhances expression of the streptococcal regulator ComR
A recent transcription study suggested that an apparent intragenic SigX-box in SMU.60, which is located upstream of comR, may drive expression of a transcript that extends to the intergenic region (IGR) between SMU.60 and comR2. To characterize transcripts extending upstream of comR more thoroughly, we performed real-time PCR with primers designed to amplify within the intergenic region between SMU.60 and comR.
Resolvin E1 Reverses Experimental Periodontitis and Dysbiosis
Periodontitis is a biofilm-induced inflammatory disease characterized by dysbiosis of the commensal periodontal microbiota. It is unclear how natural regulation of inflammation affects the periodontal biofilm. Promoters of active resolution of inflammation, including resolvin E1 (RvE1), effectively treat inflammatory periodontitis in animal models.
