As social media becomes more and more embedded into our lives, many journalists and news companies are choosing to focus on reaching their audience through other platforms, like Substack, Tik Tok and Instagram. The advantages — from reaching younger readers to pulling in extra income through monetization programs — are many, but there are also plenty of challenges. How do they make sure their news meets high quality standards while also appealing to the infamous “algorithm”?

Let's Talk New Mexico, 8/6, 9am:Since the introduction of Chat-GPT, artificial intelligence has become a factor in every classroom – from elementary schools to PhD programs. Even kindergartens have adopted AI into their curriculum, with students in New Mexico as young as 5 having their reading skills evaluated by programs like Amira using voice recognition to give feedback on their progress.

A few years ago, Brooklyn-based author Harrison Hill discovered that his neighbor had a secret: she had escaped from a New Mexico cult at the of age 26, leaving behind her entire family and the apocalyptic spiritual worldview of the group known as the Aggressive Christianity Missions Training Corps. Hill’s new non-fiction book, “The Oracle’s Daughter: The Rise and Fall of an American Cult,” tells her story, as well as the rise and fall of the militarily obsessed cult she grew up in.
