UberEATS: Using technology to build a reliable food delivery experience
A little over a year ago, we set out to put a new spin on an old classic–make reliable food delivery available at the tap of a button. Back then, we started by offering food in the UberEATS app from 1,000 pioneering restaurant partners in four cities. And today, more than 40,000 restaurants globally–from poke shops to pasta spots–are sharing food with customers through UberEATS.
How do you get from A to B without sharing A or B?
Riders love being able to push a button and get a ride quickly. But not everyone loves sharing their address with someone they just met in order to get that ride. In fact, many riders have told us over time they prefer not to share any personal information when they Uber. Their feedback: it would help them feel safer and better protect their privacy if the address could remain private. But how do we get people from A to B without sharing what A or B might be?

Did you know? The Roots of Garlic History
The humble garlic clove is a bona fide superstar. Nearly every culture in the world loves what garlic brings to the table, but the roots of garlic history go much deeper than a way to punch up pasta sauce. Here are just a few of the major milestones in garlic history: Hard to believe some people avoid garlic. On National Garlic Day, let’s put bad breath-phobias aside and celebrate by joyfully devouring as much garlic as we can.

So, the tax deadline is coming fast. You know you need to fill out that form, but the thought stresses you out completely. Relax! Tax day angst doesn’t have to overwhelm, not when there are delicious foods out there that ease nervous tension naturally. UberEATS delivers all the food you love, and we can recommend fresh options that serve up sweet serenity. So when you’re ordering this tax season, keep some of these stress-reducing foods in mind: Asparagus.
Wait a minute, what are you waiting for? One simple brunch hack.
Brunch is a year-round pleasure, but there’s something about springtime and Easter that makes people crave a delicious mid-morning meal more than ever. So we queue up and wait. And wait. But why—when there’s a much better option? We present the facts: Wait times. The wait times for brunch around the country are crazy: In San Francisco, you’ll wait two hours; in Chicago, two hours and 45 minutes.
Birmingham, your Uber has arrived! Copy
We’re proud and excited to announce that Uber is rolling into town in the great city of Birmingham! From today, wherever you’re going, a safe, reliable ride with Uber is just a couple of taps away. So, whether you’re heading home from the Bullring with a boot-full of bargains, hitting Broad Street for a night out or seeking some fresh air at Cannon Hill Park, fire up your app and start riding in style.
Instant Pay, One Year In
Flexibility and the ability to earn on your own schedule are a big draw of driving with Uber, so about a year ago we asked ourselves: why not offer drivers the same flexibility to access their earnings whenever they want, too? Enter Instant Pay, an easy-to-use option that makes cashing out the money you make with Uber as simple as pushing a button—anytime, anywhere. We thought Instant Pay might be a hit when we introduced it with the Uber Debit Card from GoBank one year ago.
Faster pickup times mean busier drivers
On Monday, the New York Times published an article with a simulation of a rideshare company that included the assertion that “faster pickup times for riders require a greater percentage of drivers to be idling unpaid”: This is simply not true—and had the Times asked us whether it was, we would have explained the reality of what happens when Uber grows in a city: riders enjoy lower pick-up times and drivers benefit from less downtime between trips.
Commuting Together: Our Response to the I-85 Collapse
As a traffic crisis becomes the new reality for metro Atlanta, Uber is launching Commuting Together, a campaign to do our part in helping commuters get to and from work while I-85 is being repaired. We are pledging to dedicate at least $5 million over the coming months to help keep prices low and encourage riders and drivers to help combat congestion.
Little changes that go a long way
Millions of Uber rides happen every day, and every one of those trips is made up of a lot of moving parts: the request, the pickup, the journey, the drop-off… So it’s safe to say that even the most minor improvements can make a major difference down the line. The little things add up, and small tweaks can have a big impact on everyone. That’s why we’re rolling out changes to the pickup and customer support experience based on feedback we’ve heard from drivers and riders.
Introducing The Uber Lost & Found Index
Everyone has experienced that moment of panic when you realize you forgot a personal item on a plane, bus, train—and in many cases, your Uber. To acknowledge Uber’s most forgetful riders, and to prepare for Mercury falling into retrograde in just over a week, we’ve created The Uber Lost & Found Index. The Uber Lost & Found Index is a snapshot of our riders’ most commonly forgotten items (there are thousands every week!)—from keys to chargers to wallets—and the most surprising items left behind.
Request a Ride on New Years Eve With Uber
This New Year’s Eve we expect to deliver more than 2 million rides in just 24 hours. We’re excited to be part of this celebratory night for so many people around the world, and proud of our role in ensuring safe, reliable rides during a time when impaired driving rates are at their highest. On busy nights with peak demand – like New Year’s Eve – we use surge pricing to get enough cars on the road and help ensure you always have a reliable ride.
Measuring What Matters: Diversity at Uber
Last week we laid out the three things we must improve to make Uber a truly great company: leadership and accountability; our relationship with drivers; and our culture and organization. While there are many things we need to change about our culture, I believe that making Uber a more diverse and inclusive workplace is key. Today, as a first step towards this goal, we’re publishing our diversity numbers.
Sharing What Matters: Uber Voices
Today we released demographic data on the diversity of Uber’s employees for the first time. Uber is a data-driven company, and we can’t improve what we don’t measure. The data we’re publishing today is a critical first step in making Uber a more diverse and inclusive workplace. But we also know that numbers only tell part of the story. So we asked a few of our employees from around the world to share, in their own words, what Uber means to them—and what they want to see going forward.
Statement on California Labor Commission Ruling
Reuters’ original headline was not accurate. The California Labor Commission’s ruling is non-binding and applies to a single driver. Indeed it is contrary to a previous ruling by the same commission, which concluded in 2012 that the driver ‘performed services as an independent contractor, and not as a bona fide employee.’ Six other states have also come to the same conclusion.
The Healthy Foods You’re Eating in 2017
Spring is finally upon us, which means soon, we’ll have relief from the short winter days and cold weather. And for our restaurant partners, that means they get to showcase this season’s delicious veggies and fruits. Spring gives us a chance for a renewed sense of healthy living and eating and luckily for busy eaters, food delivery isn’t just about pizza and Chinese food like it once was—thousands of eaters around the world are turning to UberEATS for fresh and nutritious meals every day.
Tips for Responsible Riding with Uber
At Uber, we’re always thinking about how we can use technology to help improve safety in ways not possible before. That’s why we’ve built new features designed specifically for teens and their families while using Uber. But beyond our technology, there’s a lot that you can also do to be a responsible rider.

Remarks from Uber Press Call
Below are remarks, as prepared, from today’s press call with: Arianna Huffington: Thank you everyone for joining us this afternoon. My name is Arianna Huffington and I joined Uber’s board of directors a year ago. There’s been no shortage of news about Uber lately, so before we start I wanted to make clear again that the purpose of this call is not to create yet more headlines. Rather it’s to try and explain how we’re thinking about the changes that are necessary to make Uber a truly great company.

Our Commitment to Kenya; an Update on Pricing
As a technology company, our strength is that we can move and adapt quickly, based on what works best for each city. With six years experience, we have seen that pricing is all about achieving the right balance … ultimately, prices are designed to encourage more riders on the road, to help increase trips for drivers, but equally, you want to make sure the basic economics of drivers are sustainable.

An update on “greyballing”
We wanted to give everyone an update on “greyballing”. This technology is used to hide the standard city app view for individual riders, enabling Uber to show that same rider a different version. It’s been used for many purposes, for example: the testing of new features by employees; marketing promotions; fraud prevention; to protect our partners from physical harm; and to deter riders using the app in violation of our terms of service.

Cities large and small are preparing to host the influx of people traveling to some of the biggest St. Patrick’s Day bashes and will be looking to celebrate with pints of green-colored beer and cabbage.

NYC Statement
We reviewed our records and were able to confirm that one of our driver partners in New York provided a ride to the patient yesterday evening. We immediately contacted the CDC and NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH), which stated that neither our driver partner nor any of his subsequent passengers are at risk. We have communicated this to the driver, and the NYC DOHMH medical team met with the driver in person, assuring him that he is not at risk.
Update from Arianna Huffington
I just joined Travis and Liane Hornsey, Uber’s recently hired Chief Human Resources Officer, for the company’s weekly meeting. We spent over an hour discussing women in the workplace — and talking about the review that’s underway by Eric Holder and Tammy Albarran into diversity and inclusion at Uber. Travis spoke very honestly about the mistakes he’s made — and about how he wants to take the events of the last 48-hours to build a better Uber.

Kampala, your uberX fares are lower than ever!
We want to make sure that uberX is one of the most affordable ways to get around, all day, every day. As of today, February 9, we’re lowering uberX prices in Kampala. Whether you’re commuting to and from work, running quick errands, or just meeting friends, with these new rates you can Uber further and for less! With reduced fares, we believe Uber can now be a true alternative to people driving their own cars into the city centre, with all the hassle and cost that parking brings.
Let's take care of each other
When you get a flu shot, you’re not just keeping yourself healthy. You’re helping everyone around you stay healthy, too. Every year, the flu affects 20% of the population–but it doesn’t have to. Every person who receives a flu shot reduces the risk of others getting the flu by 50-60%. We can all fight this thing together. This flu season, we’re delivering free flu-fighting care packages across the country.
